Listening Matters in Pastoral Care Ministry

A full day foundation course introducing active, reflective listening skills tailored to pastoral care settings.

This course sets the case for good listening and looks at how we listen to others and some of the common mistakes that are made. There is opportunity for participants to identify and practice active, reflective listening and to reflect upon healthy boundaries and explore how the principles of listening can be applied to pastoral care and more informal settings.

This course can be run ‘in house’ for your own pastoral care team.

Anita (Senior Pastor of Elim church) said: “They touched on the key aspects of the subject in a professional and insightful manner.  We would recommend their training and their listening service, it aided a greater understanding of listening well, within a pastoral context.”

What others say about our courses:

“The whole day has been relaxed, easy to understand and educational. Always amazing!

“I found the course in active reflective listening, life changing, and has completely altered my approach to listening to others. I now have skills to be able to create a safe environment for the speaker to be truly heard, and to help restore confidence and empowerment in the process. This course is perfectly crafted for the learner to embrace life skills, and discover the art of communication.” Tanya

” [Breakthrough Stress course] made me aware of how I deal with certain aspects of my life when stressed/anxious/depressed. It gave me ways in which I can change how to deal with it and actually, most importantly “I am not alone”.

There’s hardly been a day that the Listening course has not been used !  I thank you for your time spent with us and the skills you demonstrated.  I’m very sure those concepts have improved ‘me’ and I feel a better person for it.” Louie

” I love the way that any time we asked questions they were thoughtfully and clearly explained and it felt that I was listened to and whatever I said was listened to”

” I learnt that it’s o.k to feel stressed and that it’s normal in everyday life at some point – we will get there.”

Towards the end of the day, I began to reflect on the benefits of developing ‘stress literacy’, i.e being able to notice and name stressors and know how to put strategies in place to address these.”

Listening seems such a simple task and yet it demands great discipline.”  Deb

We expect all our listeners to be of a high standard and to have undergone training to be able to listen at a practitioner level. Ongoing training is also required to keep skills up to date and all listeners come under the direct supervision of our lead trainer/co-ordinator to ensure consistency and high standards of care.
